Book Review: How to Sell a Haunted House

As a book critic, I recently had the pleasure of reading How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. From the moment I picked up this book, I was immediately drawn into its world of supernatural spookiness and real estate shenanigans.

The plot centers around a group of real estate agents who specialize in selling haunted houses. When they take on their biggest challenge yet – a dilapidated mansion with a dark past – they quickly realize that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. With ghosts, curses, and all manner of strange occurrences plaguing them at every turn, the team must work together to sell the house before it’s too late.

What really stood out to me about How to Sell a Haunted House was its unique blend of humor and horror. Hendrix manages to make even the scariest moments feel lighthearted and fun, which kept me on my toes throughout the entire book.

Another thing I appreciated about this novel was Hendrix’s attention to detail when it comes to character development. Each member of the real estate team is fleshed out in such a way that you feel like you’re right there with them as they navigate this creepy mansion. Even some of the more minor characters are given enough backstory and personality that you care about what happens to them.

Of course, no book is without its flaws, and there were a few things that didn’t quite work for me in How to Sell a Haunted House. For one thing, some of the scares felt a little predictable – there were several instances where I saw what was coming from a mile away. Additionally, while I loved most of the characters, there were one or two whose behavior felt inconsistent at times.

Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed reading How to Sell a Haunted House. It’s spooky and funny all at once, with memorable characters and plenty of twists and turns along the way. If you’re a fan of horror comedy or just looking for something a little different, I highly recommend picking up this book. I give it a score of 8/10 for its ability to seamlessly blend genres and keep me entertained from start to finish.
