Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology

Book Review: Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology

As a book critic, it is my pleasure to review the Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology, authored by C.R. Snyder and Shane J. Lopez and published by Oxford University Press in 2009. This handbook, with its magnificent 709-page count, has left me feeling inspired and motivated to practice positivity in all aspects of my life.

The authors have done an excellent job of presenting the topic of positive psychology in a clear and organized manner. The book is divided into different sections which make it easy for readers to navigate their way through the various topics covered. From the history and foundations of positive psychology to its practical applications in various fields such as health, education, and work settings, this handbook provides comprehensive coverage of the subject.

One aspect that really resonated with me was how the authors stressed the importance of positivity in everyday life. They emphasize that being positive does not mean ignoring negative experiences or emotions but rather learning to cultivate greater resilience and adaptive coping strategies to overcome challenges.

While reading this handbook, I felt compelled to reflect on my own life experiences and consider how I could incorporate more positivity into my day-to-day routine. The authors’ insights have helped me recognize how small changes can make a big difference in enhancing well-being.

The only criticism I would have about this book is that it may be too dense for some readers who are unfamiliar with academic writing or not interested in psychological research. It can be quite technical at times but overall an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about positive psychology.
